The upper part of the bow is lighter than the heel of the bow.

A common way to play with even volume throughout the whole-bow stroke is to reduce bow friction in the lower part of the bow by using the side of the hair.

Also, develop the ability to play a whole-bow stroke on the side of the hair and a whole-bow stroke using only flat hair. This gives you the technical skill to produce the desired sound in all circumstances....
