Two-Note Unit with Rhythm Sounds

The ability to play rhythmically while playing technical units, such as hook stroke, is very important.

Inserting practice breaks during which you feel a pulse is an excellent practice technique.

You can use a metronome, or your body (eg. foot-taps), to enunciate the beat.

Making a silly noise keeps the pulse steady. It could also help to release any tension in the jaw.

For instance you could practise the opening of Viotti's Violin Concerto No.23 with a practice break between each 2-note unit.
