A common problem is to press too tightly with the 1st and 2nd fingers while playing the violin. Try this exercise to help release pressure in the 1st and 2nd fingers.
Hold down the 3rd or 4th finger with normal pressure while you tap the 1st and 2nd fingers with a light touch, as if playing a harmonic note. This will release tightness in the lower fingers and help to balance the hand.
