Let the Bow Bounce – Lift Off 2nd, 3rd, 4th Finger

This exercise explores the natural bounce of the bow with the goal of getting as many bounces as possible from the one drop.

Put the bow on the string with your arm in the square position, and lift with your whole arm. Take off your 2nd, 3rd and 4th fingers and let the bow drop.

As the bow is bouncing let the arm come back to its original position and replace the fingers on the bow.

Note - The 'square position' is formed with the bow resting on the string in approximately the middle of the bow, so that the forearm, upper arm, violin and bow make four sides of a square.
