Keep a Stable Bowhold

First find a comfortable bowhold, while helping support the bow with your left hand.

When you take away the extra support, does your bow remain stable?

Testing the bowhold with the bow in the air means that the 4th finger balances the weight of the bow. This is necessary in playing in the lower half and for lifted bowstrokes.

This approach is similar to giving extra support to your violin hold by resting the violin scroll against a wall....
