Incorrect Left-Thumb Placement

The thumb as shown here acts as a counterbalance only for the lower fingers and barely supports the 3rd and 4th fingers.

There are individual differences in hands especially the comparative length of thumbs and fingers. As a general principle however if the thumb is placed too far behind the 1st finger this can cause tightness in the hand.

If the thumb sits too far back this can also cause problems when shifting down from high positions....
