Guide Fingers in Key

Guide Fingers in Key

When we shift, our guide finger can travel to either a note in the key of the piece, or to a note the most logical physical distance away. Sometimes this is the same note, but not always.

It is good aural training to practise a shifting drill like this one, keeping the guide fingers in the key.

Make sure that you also start this exercise coming down from the top, and with other pairs of fingers such as 2nd and 3rd; 3rd and 4th.
