This one-string sequence from Carl Flesch's Scale System is an excellent shifting exercise.
It is especially good for practising the larger shifts that need the arm to swing to the right on the way up and swing back to the left on the way down.
The Flesch scale system has influenced many violin teachers and is still commonly used today. Practise the one-string sequence in the same key on all strings, therefore starting in different positions. This is an excellent way to develop a thorough knowledge of the violin fingerboard.
Minor scales can be added.
