Backward Stretch

Backward Stretch

Most stretch in the hand frame comes from the backward stretch of the 1st and 2nd fingers.

Since fingered octaves are a considerable stretch, practise this exercise starting with the interval of a 7th, stretching the 2nd finger back from the 4th finger and then the 1st finger back from the 3rd finger.

Work to maintain the same hand-frame for both types of fingered octaves (2-4 and 1-3 fingerings).

Notice how Emily uses flatter fingers to give greater stretch here.
